🌾 To mark the International Day of Rural Women (15 October), we’re opening space to hear from young women driving change in rural communities around the world.
Whether through farming, entrepreneurship, green jobs or innovation — rural youth, especially young women, are challenging outdated narratives and building sustainable futures.
👉 This thread is part of a broader celebration led by the ProAgro Youth project, supported by the ILO and partners under the Decent Jobs for Youth initiative.
🎙️ To open the conversation, meet Sabrina Ounis — a young agri-entrepreneur from Algeria who is using aquaponics and smart monitoring systems to tackle climate and food challenges in desert regions. She founded Desert Fish, a system built to be off-grid, cost-effective and locally adaptable.
🗣️ "Start small and learn constantly. Your ideas are valid — don’t wait for permission."
— Sabrina, Desert Fish, Algeria
👩💻 Sabrina will be joining this thread to exchange with you and hear your thoughts.
💬 We’d love to hear from you:
What are rural girls and women in your country doing to create change?
What barriers remain — and what helps you or others overcome them?
Do you know a young rural leader who should be celebrated?
