Our partner Oxfam’s Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) Program developed some interesting case studies to capture program learning on ways to create Decent Job opportunities for young people.
- The examples demonstrate that working in informal groups, community-based organizations (CBOs) or cooperatives is empowering for women and rural producers that can facilitate a safe environment for work and learning.
- Social solidarity approaches can work for micro-entrepreneurs, vulnerable and marginalized groups in informal sectors for providing collective support through revolving funds, seed capital, and technical help to boost economic opportunities.
- Formal business development support and linking with the private sector can increase profits and sustainability of enterprises as well as help entrepreneurs mitigate shocks of the coronavirus pandemic.
The case studies suggest that increasing the participation of young people in the labor market and creating decent jobs can be achieved by empowering women, supporting entrepreneurs’ transition from informal to the formal market, making the vulnerable inclusive in all interventions, linking with the private sector, and promoting innovative entrepreneurship.
